The first profession of the Prophet (saw) was shepherding. In Sahih Bukhari, the Prophet (SAW) says, “Allah has not sent a prophet who is not a shepherd”. His companions then asked “And you?” “Yes I used to herd sheep for compensation from the people of Makkah”.
Its striking that Allah (SWT) trained all of His prophets as shepherds especially that of sheep. There are some lessons to be learned from the Prophet (saw) being shepherds specifically that of sheep (or goats).
What in your opinion are some of the lessons to be learned from this profession?

A shepherd is one with great values as a person and has good character in general. A shepherd is a leader that deals with stressful job, keeping sheep’s together. Sheep’s are animals that do not like to stay together and they don’t see far; which makes them easily attacked by other animals. A shepherd has to look out for each one of them. Shepherds are very patient people with the dealings of stressful animals. They are critical thinkers with all the time they have spending in empty lands. They are much disciplined people with the schedule they have all day. They are people that care about others, shown with the way there care about sheep’s.

I think the lessons to learn are that the leaders of our religion were given great values and good morals(character) like the ladies mentioned above. these are the people that we should look up to because they are not only leaders, but they are the BEST leaders. These characteristics are what makes the best leader possible. There is also comfort in knowing that the prophets of Islam are not rulers or dictators or pushy leaders ... they are filled with love and compassion for the ones that they are leading. Like Rahma said they look out for each one of them, so our prophets (saw) will look out for us and guide us on the right path. We should find confidence in trusting in this
